The right fans for refrigeration technology

Environmentally-friendly coolant in accordance with EU regulations

Intelligent ECblue fans exceed the official technical standards required for meeting the needs of refrigeration systems. In this context, the focus in the future will be on “environmental friendliness”. This refers in particular to efficiency, energy-saving operation and the use of natural coolants which are far less harmful to the environment than conventional refrigerants.

The fan plays the key role

It’s the individual components that create a successful whole unit. The use of the right fan plays a role, or more accurately the key role, in meeting the above-mentioned requirements of eco-friendly refrigeration systems with reduced CO2 emissions. Jürgen Albig, Head of Product Management Air Technology at ZIEHL-ABEGG, is well aware of the subtle differences that ultimately deliver reliable record results.

A challenge for refrigeration technology

We have been working for many years on developing the durability and global usability of our fans to suit a wide range of applications and meet their respective requirements. In this context, through the use of our high-quality biomimetic impellers with their optimal aerodynamic properties, as well as the intelligent, energy-saving motor technology ECblue, we have created a long-established, huge competitive edge over our competitors, says Jürgen Albig.

EU regulations making the use of refrigerants environmentally friendly

For the environmentally friendly refrigerants used today, which have a lower GWP value, F-Gas Regulation EU 517/2014 of the European Union also requires compliance with the DIN EN 60335-2-40 or 2-89 specification or, if necessary, an ATEX approval. However, the new environmentally-friendly nature of the refrigerants demands the highest level of safety from the fans used because the refrigerants can be combustible or even inflammable.

A positive approach towards a climate-friendly future

ZIEHL-ABEGG fans comprise certificated and award-winning components, using for example biomimetic impellers and intelligent ECblue motor technology. These unique components meet the requirements for a future that is conscious of the needs of the environment and ensure the safe, targeted movement of air in refrigerated counters, cold rooms and many other areas of application in the field of classic refrigeration technology. They reduce CO2 emissions, are highly efficient and provide for very low operating costs.

Reliable safety, innovation, responsibility

With the continuous further development of existing intelligent fans and new developments, ZIEHL-ABEGG has always focussed on the needs of the market. The top priority in this context is to create harmony between technology and the environment for a world which will also be worth living in for future generations.

Useful information on standards: The international standard IEC 60335-2-40 or 2-89 specifies safety requirements for electrically operated commercial refrigerators/freezers that have a built-in motor compressor or that are delivered in two units for assembly as a single unit (split system) in accordance with the manufacturing instructions. The F-Gas Regulation EU 517/2014 governs the industrial use of fluorinated greenhouse gases (F-gases), the goal of this regulation being: by 2030 to reduce Europe-wide emissions of climate-relevant F-gases by 70 percent compared with 1990 levels.
