The first traction-motor fan with ECblue motor technology
Blue technology from ZIEHL-ABEGG achieves an unprecedented level of sustainability for the train of the future
It’s the one component that has it all, and it plays a decisive role in a whole host of huge improvements to the performance of the new train of the future. The first traction-motor fan with ECblue motor technology is specially tailored to specific, climate-friendly challenges and has been developed accordingly.
Developed by experienced process air specialists
The process air specialists at ZIEHL-ABEGG have succeeded in integrating tried-and-tested fans with integrated ECblue motor technology into aerodynamically optimised housing developed for these special requirements. One of the challenges in this process was to ultimately design the overall system to be much more compact and lighter than conventional solutions on this market in order to keep the train’s weight as low as possible and thus drastically reduce its energy requirements.
Sustainable, energy-saving and breathtakingly quiet

Intelligent ECblue motor technology
For the trains of the future – sustainable, energy-saving and quiet in operation
However, it is not only the low energy costs that make ZIEHL-ABEGG’s intelligent future-oriented train fan project second to none, the process engineers were also able to cut acoustics to a minimum. This is made possible by the intelligent regulation of the ECblue motor, which controls the fan speed accordingly when the train pulls in or out of the station. When integrated into the train’s on-board system, predictive maintenance (IoT) is also possible with a 360° overview at and from any location in the world, thereby ensuring permanent safety.
Reliable cooling of the train’s drive system
The feeling of arriving safely, reliably and punctually at your destination should primarily be felt by the passengers, too; after all, rail travel is the transport of the future and passenger expectations are high. Only reliable cooling can ensure that the train’s drive system meets these standards.
