PRODUCING WITH RESPONSIBILITY
Kupferzell site
Sustainability is becoming increasingly important in our globalised world, as it lays the foundations for a future worth living. Sustainable behaviour means using resources in such a way that they are also available to future generations. As a globally active company, ZIEHL-ABEGG is aware of its responsibility towards people and the environment and has taken important steps towards more sustainable production at the Kupferzell site in recent years.
Composite material as an efficient and recyclable raw material
Composite material has many properties that make it an extremely efficient raw material for a wide range of applications – including in ZIEHL-ABEGG products.
Our ZAplus enables optimum air flow.
The housing and fan impeller are manufactured at our GPH site using the plastic injection moulding process.
This results in various advantages:
Variety of moulding
Greater degree of freedom in shaping thanks to the composite material injection moulding process
Stackable
Efficient transport and space-saving storage
Efficiency increase
Nozzle with integrated guide vanes to increase efficiency
Corrosion protection
No additional corrosion protection required
In the production of composite material fan impellers, ZIEHL-ABEGG relies on modern, fully electrically operated composite material injection moulding systems. The composite material used is supplied as regrind in practical big bags. These big bags are not only robust, but also reusable. Once the material has been used up in production, the big bags are returned to the supplier. This leads to an 86% reduction in packaging waste.
In principle, the composite material used in ZIEHL-ABEGG products can be reutilised (recycled). ZIEHL-ABEGG therefore collects the ‘plastic waste’ generated during production and has it processed into new regrind. Even defective products that can no longer be repaired in the service centre are not simply thrown away. Instead, composite materials are separated from metals and reprocessed into regrind depending on their condition.
Own energy efficiency through own power generation and
waste heat utilisation through photovoltaics
The company’s own photovoltaic system at the Kupferzell site produces around 1,500 MWh per year.
On summer days, the system covers the entire energy requirements of the composite material injection moulding systems. In winter, the waste heat from the injection moulding systems is also used to heat the building, saving around 600,000 kWh of energy each year.
Intelligent waste heat utilisation of the systems
At ZIEHL-ABEGG, the heat emitted by the production facilities does not remain unutilised. A clever heating system, which utilises the waste heat to heat the building, saves around 600,000 kWh of energy every year.
ZIEHL-ABEGG is continuously working on further optimising its processes and making production more sustainable.
